Mahmud, The Waterman
Mahmud, The Waterman
This is the story of Hassan and his son Mahmoud—watermen in Cairo, the city some call "Mother of the World." Cairo: nurturing mother, weary from giving and forgiving too much.
Father and son slip through the crowded streets, lost without being lost, swallowed by the labyrinth that stretches to infinity. A little water on the pavement, a breath of freshness, a hint of cleanliness.
The asphalt burns; both walk barefoot in worn slippers, breathing all day the grey fumes of exhaust.
A mother at once cruel and tender. Heartwrenching, yet so beautiful. Inspired by TheOne Thousand and One Nights and Cairo's wild rhythm, a tale about survival, about fathers and sons, about small acts of grace piercing through the asphalt.
